It all started in 1890 when the Japanese
company Mitsubishi bought the island and began coal mining project in undersea mines being increasingly inhabited
by their workers.
With the
substitution of coal for oil in Japan during the 1960s, the mineral extraction

closure of its activities on the island in 1974, and the place It has been
